{"id":548,"date":"2018-11-06T16:31:56","date_gmt":"2018-11-06T16:31:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wptest.mdek12.org\/testsite2\/2018\/11\/06\/national-assessment-governing-board-releases-report-on-mississippi-naep-progress\/"},"modified":"2018-11-06T16:31:56","modified_gmt":"2018-11-06T16:31:56","slug":"national-assessment-governing-board-releases-report-on-mississippi-naep-progress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wpdev01.mdek12.org\/communications\/2018\/11\/06\/national-assessment-governing-board-releases-report-on-mississippi-naep-progress\/","title":{"rendered":"National Assessment Governing Board Releases Report on Mississippi\u2019s NAEP Progress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NEWS RELEASE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For Immediate Release: November 6, 2018<\/p>\n<p>JACKSON, Miss. \u2013 Mississippi students have made consistent gains in reading over the past dozen years on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as The Nation\u2019s Report Card, making Mississippi one of the top leaders in score improvement in 4th grade reading between 2005 and 2017, according to a recent report from the National Assessment Governing Board.<\/p>\n<p>The narrative report on Mississippi, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nagb.gov\/content\/nagb\/assets\/documents\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2018\/release-20181105-mississippi-narrative.pdf\">NAEP Gains Follow State\u2019s Efforts to Improve Student Achievement,<\/a>\u201d took a closer look at what has changed in the state over the years to move academic performance in Mississippi, where scores are increasing faster than the national average.<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>Score-point increases on NAEP<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Math\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"b29f37bb-a9c2-4cd3-80fc-87416848f8d7\" src=\"\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/Math20181106.jpg\" \/>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Reading\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"fe5ec43d-e14b-4c18-a6e7-895acd7f1326\" src=\"\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/Reading20181106.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>U.S. Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences, National Center for Education Statistics, National Assessment of Educational Progress<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of the hard work of teachers and leaders, Mississippi students have made substantial gains in academic achievement, and I am thrilled to see the National Governing Board\u2019s interest in what we are doing in the state to improve education,\u201d said Dr. Carey Wright, state superintendent of education.<\/p>\n<p>While Mississippi students still score below the national average on NAEP, the report noted that student achievement in the state has been improving on NAEP across grades and subject areas for years.
