{"id":578,"date":"2019-03-28T19:28:06","date_gmt":"2019-03-28T19:28:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wptest.mdek12.org\/testsite2\/2019\/03\/28\/state-board-approves-oxford-school-district-as-newest-district-of-innovation\/"},"modified":"2019-03-28T19:28:06","modified_gmt":"2019-03-28T19:28:06","slug":"state-board-approves-oxford-school-district-as-newest-district-of-innovation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wpdev01.mdek12.org\/communications\/2019\/03\/28\/state-board-approves-oxford-school-district-as-newest-district-of-innovation\/","title":{"rendered":"State Board Approves Oxford School District as Newest District of Innovation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NEWS RELEASE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For Immediate Release: &nbsp;March 28, 2019<\/p>\n<p>JACKSON, Miss \u2013 The Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) today approved plans for the Oxford School District to become Mississippi\u2019s newest District of Innovation, bringing the total number of Districts of Innovation to eight.<\/p>\n<p>The Oxford School District innovation plan includes a modified district calendar, a middle college program, a career academy, a personalized education pathway counseling program, and a comprehensive professional development program for teachers. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mississippi\u2019s other Districts of Innovation include Corinth, Gulfport, Vicksburg-Warren, Grenada, Baldwyn, Booneville and Hinds County.<\/p>\n<p>Legislation passed in 2015 allows districts to apply for District of Innovation status, which enables the district to request exemptions from certain state regulations to improve student achievement.
