{"id":2125,"date":"2024-05-17T15:29:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-17T15:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wpdev01.mdek12.org\/federalprograms\/?page_id=2125"},"modified":"2024-05-23T14:01:26","modified_gmt":"2024-05-23T14:01:26","slug":"charter-schools","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wpdev01.mdek12.org\/federalprograms\/charter-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Charter Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Title IV, Part C Expanding Opportunity Through Quality Charter Schools<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">The Purpose of Title IV, Part C is to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Improve the education system and opportunities for all people by supporting innovation in public education that prepares students to compete and contribute to the global economy and a stronger nation;<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Provide financial assistance for the planning, program design, and initial implementation of charter schools;<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Increase the number of high-quality charter schools available to students;<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Evaluate the impact of charter schools on student achievement, families, and communities, and share best practices between charter schools and other public schools;<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Encourage states to provide facilities financing in an amount more nearly commensurate to the amount typically provided to traditional public schools;<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Expand opportunities for traditionally underserved students to attend charter schools and meet the challenging State academic standards;<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Support efforts to strengthen the charter school authorizing process to improve performance management, including transparency, oversight, and monitoring and evaluation; and<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Support quality, accountability, and transparency in the operational performance of all authorized public chartering agencies, and other authorizing entities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Charter schools are public schools of choice that operate with autonomy from many of the regulations that apply to traditional public schools.\u00a0 These schools may service early childhood, elementary school, and secondary school students.\u00a0 The &#8220;charter&#8221;
