{"id":2148,"date":"2024-05-17T15:59:55","date_gmt":"2024-05-17T15:59:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wpdev01.mdek12.org\/federalprograms\/?page_id=2148"},"modified":"2024-09-19T20:07:52","modified_gmt":"2024-09-19T20:07:52","slug":"title-i-part-a-basic","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wpdev01.mdek12.org\/federalprograms\/title-i-part-a-basic\/","title":{"rendered":"Title I, Part A (Basic)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/essa?src=ft\">Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)<\/a>\u00a0provides financial assistance through state education agencies (SEAs) to local education agencies (LEAs) and public schools with the highest percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.<\/p>\n<p>Title I funds may be used for children from preschool through grade 12.\u00a0 LEAs target the Title I funds they receive to public schools with the highest poverty rates.\u00a0 Public schools with poverty rates of at least 40 percent may use Title I funds, along with other federal, state, and local funds, to operate a schoolwide program to upgrade the entire educational program. Schools with poverty rates below 40 percent, or those choosing not to operate a schoolwide program, offer a targeted assistance program. In a targeted assistance program, the school serves Title I-eligible students who are failing, or most at risk of failing, to meet challenging state academic standards.\u00a0 The school then designs, in consultation with parents, staff, and district staff, an instructional program to meet the needs of those students. Both schoolwide and targeted assistance programs must be based on effective means of improving student achievement and include strategies to support parent and family engagement.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"border: 0px; text-align: start;\">In accordance with the Supplement Not Supplant Methodology of determination described in section 1118(b)(2), a school participating in a schoolwide program shall use funds available to carry out Title I, Part A programs to supplement the amount of funds that would, in the absence of funds under this part, be made available from non-Federal sources for the school, including funds needed to provide services that are required by law for children with disabilities and English learners.
