{"id":2174,"date":"2024-05-17T16:34:05","date_gmt":"2024-05-17T16:34:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wpdev01.mdek12.org\/federalprograms\/?page_id=2174"},"modified":"2024-05-17T16:35:19","modified_gmt":"2024-05-17T16:35:19","slug":"title-ii-part-a-effective-instruction","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wpdev01.mdek12.org\/federalprograms\/title-ii-part-a-effective-instruction\/","title":{"rendered":"Title II, Part A (Effective Instruction)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The purpose of Title II, Part A is to increase student academic achievement consistent with the challenging state academic standards; improve the quality and effectiveness of teacher, principals, and other school leaders; increase the number of teachers, principals, and other school leaders who are effective in improving student academic achievement in schools; and provide low-income and minority students greater access to effective teachers, principals, and other school leaders.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Goals of Title II Funding<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop, implement, and improve rigorous, transparent, fair evaluation and support systems<\/li>\n<li>Support the effective recruitment, selection, hiring and retention of effective educators<\/li>\n<li>Recruit qualified individuals from other fields to become educators<\/li>\n<li>Reduce class size to a level that is evidence-based<\/li>\n<li>Provide high-quality personalized professional development that is evidence-based<\/li>\n<li>Develop programs and activities that increase educators\u2019 ability to meet the needs of all learners<\/li>\n<li>Support activities and programs that increase educators\u2019 ability to meet the needs of students through age 8<\/li>\n<li>Carrying out in-service training for school personnel<\/li>\n<li>Support the instructional services provided by effective school library programs<\/li>\n<li>Develop feedback mechanisms to improve school working conditions<\/li>\n<li>Carry out other evidence-based activities that meet the purpose of this title.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Costs that can be supported by Title II Part A<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Developing and implementing new teacher, principal, or other school leader induction and mentoring programs<\/li>\n<li>Providing high-quality professional development that is evidence-based for educators on activities such as effectively engaging parents, families and community partners, promoting high-quality instruction in STEM, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Developing and implementing strategies to improve the hiring and retention of a diverse workforce<\/li>\n<li>Creating incentives for effective educators to teach in high-need schools and ongoing incentives for such educators to remain and grow in such schools<\/li>\n<li>Providing in-service training to all school personnel regarding how to recognize child sexual abuse, trauma, and mental illness, linking children to appropriate services, and addressing issues related to school conditions<\/li>\n<li>Providing training to support the identification of gifted and talented students and instructional practices that support the education of such students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Supplement, Not Supplant:<\/strong>&nbsp;Funds made available under Title II shall be used to supplement, and not supplant, non-Federal funds that would otherwise be used for activities authorized under this title.
