The purpose of JROTC is to instill in students in United States secondary educational institutions the value of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment.\u00a0 The JROTC units in our schools provide a wide variety of educational experiences for our cadets covering topics ranging from service-specific subjects to healthy lifestyles, financial management, government, history, and natural sciences. The common theme in all units is the emphasis on leadership development and citizenship. Other unit activities include competition in drill, orienteering, academics, and athletics, plus field trips and community service.\u00a0 In Mississippi JROTC can serve as a substitute for the physical education and health education graduation requirements.<\/p>\n
Due to budget limitations, the military services are currently very limited in their ability to expand the JROTC program to additional schools.\u00a0 The National Defense Cadet Corps (NDCC) program provides qualifying schools the opportunity to conduct a course of instruction similar to JROTC.\u00a0 The NDCC program is modeled after JROTC, with the principal exception being the host school is responsible for the primary funding for the program to include instructor salaries and other operational expenses.\u00a0 The military services provide the JROTC curriculum materials for use by NDCC units and the forms and regulations required to conduct the program.<\/p>\n
